EXERCISE 1: Model Blocking

⇢ Exercise 1: Model Blocking out of Primitive Objects

For this exercise, I decided to recreate a vending machine as it had multiple shapes in one. Since I wasn't that well-versed in the world of Blender, I decided to create the vending machine in layers. This is my reference:

Since I didn't know how to subtract from a shape yet, I decided to separate them into layers for easy combining.

After that I moved on to actually creating the vending machine on Blender. In essence, I mainly used 2 shapes (rectangles & cylinders) to achieve my build.

Final Details

I then moved on to coloring the objects. Since the reference picture had a lot of colors, I generalized the color scheme for a more simplified feel.

   ⇢ Feedback

After getting feedback in class, I was told that my vending machine is good but my proportions of my cans are a little too big for the model. So I resized the cans and spaced them out evenly.

EXERCISE 2: Polygonal Modeling

   ⇢ Exercise 2: Cylindrical Modeling

I started off with planning the layout of my proposed final look that I had in mind with my bottles, cups and plates.

Layout Planning

I then moved on to creating each part of the plan which included:
  • Big Vase
  • Small glasses
  • Tall glass
  • Plates
Since I would be working on each of these components, I thought that it would be best if I did each part on its own thing and would combine it together for the final render.

Vase (Cylinder Mesh)

Tall Glass (2 Cylinder Meshs)

Technically there was supposed to be "ice" in the cup since I wanted it to be transparent (like an actual tall glass) but I couldn't figure it out so the "ice" idea was trashed.

Small Teacup (2 Cylinder Mesh + Torus Mesh)

This was also technically to be a small glass and a plate (separately) but it looked a little off entirely so I added a torus mesh to act as a handle. In addition to this, I used the original plate because It wasn't looking how I wanted it to be when I applied shade smooth on it so I repurposed it.

Long Bottles (Cylinder Mesh)

Plates (Cylinder Mesh)

The final plate where I was actually happy with the outcome when I applied shade smooth.
