WEEK 1

   ⇢ 3 Favourite Films
  • Treasure Planet (2002)
Treasure Planet was one of the films that made me stay awake at night, dreaming of the stars and the wonderful world of space, all without leaving my room. God, the open-air shots of the buildings, space, and environment really drew me in. Not to mention, the characters are so lovable from then till the nth time that I watched that film. Don't even get me started on the scenery

As much as the film was so technologically advanced for its time, the thing that really roped me into this film was the connection between Jim Hawkins and Long John Silver (HEAR ME OUT). My favourite scene is when Long John Silver had a one-to-one with Jim Hawkins about the loss of a life when they were sucked into a black hole. Coming from a person who had the mentality of "if something screws up, I'm the one to blame", zeroing in on a small mistake rather than taking a look at the whole picture.

Honestly, I wish I had someone like Long John Silver in my life to reassure me, then maybe those lingering feelings wouldn't be lingering as hard to this day. 10/10 movie never failed to make me cry.
  • The Garden of Words (2013)
This film was one of the few films that really plunged me into wanting to pursue animation. I mean, the art is so meticulously crafted, and it shows the unexpected sweetness when it comes to mundane activities. Although the runtime is less than an hour, the lingering shots of the garden canopy and the long shots of the school really take it slow. This makes the scenes easier to digest and hit even harder.

It depicts the topic of alienation in a very realistic way. I moved from Singapore to a public school in Malaysia and I was left all alone, with no one to lean on or to talk to. I was your textbook delinquent within my secondary years, skipping class, bad grades, and bad influences to the point that either my teachers hated me or liked me, none in between. I used to escape to the staircase near the science labs during class or extra-curriculars to draw (sometimes on paper but any surface works) and played games with my friends. Even through all that, there was still a deep sense of unending loneliness that I felt that stretched till I graduated.
  • Zathura (2005)
In my opinion, the better version of Jumanji. Oh my word, I remember being jealous of them having to have that board game (even though they almost died multiple times but that aint the point-). Zathura skyrocketed (pun-intended) my love for space and beyond. It was such an amaze to see what space would look like if it were right Infront of your door.

I am a middle child between 3 sisters and I would quarrel with my foil of a little sister that held deep scars within each other whether accidental or not. As much as that would happen however, we're still family at the end of the day. This movie basically hammered this in hard as it also featured a middle kid trying to navigate his life so it resonated with me a ton.

   ⇢ Kitbull (2019)

Kitbull stars 2 main characters (the cat and the dog) and 1 side character (the man) that takes place over the course of a few days behind a dogfight building.

I identify with the cat the most as I am described by most as a very skittish person and tend to panic a lot. Due to this, I'm usually very apprehensive when it comes to talking to someone, especially if its someone I've never met before. There are countless people that looked like they could snap me with a twig with a glare but turned out to be the most funniest, caring and nicest people I've met.
