Character Turn Around Sheet

   ⇢ Main Character

For this project, I drew my character on paper first to see what kind of vibe Ill be creating throughout this project.

First Draft

I've always wanted to make something that had some sort of anthropomorphic features as I thought that would be easier to make expressions (ie. animal ears pointing downwards, ears flaring up when angry etc.)
Zemyata Art Reference

I chose Zemyata's art style because I was a big fan of their works and it just so happens, that their characters have anthropomorphic features. I then showed it to Mr Kamal alongside the artist (Zemyata) that I referenced. He said that I should follow the proportions and mentioned that the closest style is the German shepherd dog.

Krill body proportion study

I did try out the proportions of the German Shepherd but it wasn't clear where the torso ends and the legs start, so I used Krill's proportions and used the placement of ears from the German Shepherd for proportions.

I then redrew my character base from my physical draft based on the proportions I got from Krill. I then made the line art more cleaner.

Character colouring (Base, Shading & Final)

I then colored the base using this colour palette that I got from Coolors palette generator. I wanted the colours to show that this is just some guy you'd see on the street in the world. I did some shading using the colours and the power of Overlays for more cohesion.

I was a little concerned that this character would look too simple so I showed it to Mr Kamal and to my surprise he approved it! He did say that I can shade the shoes for more dimension so I applied it to my character design.

   ⇢ Character Turn Around

Character Turn Around (Front)

I started to convert my main drawing into a turn around sheet and started with a front view draft. This was a little challenging as the character that I drew wasn't facing the front, so I had to reference that in the Front view.
Character Turn Around (Front + Back)

After that it was easy to create the Back view as it was an edited version of the front view.

Character Turn Around (Final)

After that it was a repeat of doing one side, editing it to look like the opposite view and vice versa. I did think I would have a bit of trouble when creating the 3/4 view, but I asked Mr Kamal and he said that the character design was already in 3/4 view so I could just use that.

In addition to this, I was glad that the colours I chose translated well in black and white so each part would be apparent to each other whilst looking like they belong together on the design itself.

Cassidy Turn Around Sheet

I added the blue as it would contrast the yellows in my design.

Fun fact, the name only came to me after I was making my script for another module
(Film & Cinematography Studies)

Character Poses + Expression Sheet

   ⇢ Poses

Character Poses

I sourced out my poses from pictures of memes. I wanted to convey that Cassidy was just a friend that you can joke around, a ball of chaotic energy and a troublemaker with a friendly attachment to it.

Cassidy-fied poses

I then blocked out Cassidy from these pictures using different colours to differentiate the poses and the different sections of clothes within my layers.

Cassidy-fied poses (Line Art)

I then cleaned up the lines and added more clearer expressions to the poses based on the reference pictures and how Cassidy would pose as well. The shoes are already shaded in as I copied and paster from the turn around sheet and only modified when necessary (eg. bent shoes)

Cassidy-fied poses (Base+Shading)

I then coloured it in using the black and white colours from the turn around sheet and added shadows where the shadows would normally be there to add more dimension to the poses.

Cassidy-fied poses (Final)

I wanted to add some colour to my poses so I just used the drafts that I made in colour as the backdrop and added expression lines to the poses for a more dynamic effect.

   ⇢ Expressions

@Deeppink-man's expression sheet

For the expressions, I referenced @Deeppink-man's expressions sheet for ideas on how to make Cassidy's expressions. I also took inspiration from how expressions would be exaggerated from early 2000s 2D animations/artworks like Naruto and how foxes would express their emotions for the anthropomorphic side of things.

Cassidy expressions (Final)

I did want to showcase the range of emotions that he would go through from happy, to angry, to scared, blushing and dizziness and how cartoon-y he can get.

Then, I added the expressions alongside the poses in a dynamic way because I realised I had no space to put them in a straight line. I also added expression markings the same way I did the expressions wouldn't look so out of place within the spread.
