Film Studies & Cinematography : Project 1

Short Film Planning:

A&B explores an abandoned building not knowing it would be their last for a very long time. They both got something to say towards each other it's only a matter of time till the beans jump out of the can.

Characters:

A: The definition of high strung / Has been in love with B for a kjillion years. This is the only chance he's got and things definitely wont go wrong.

Wants: To confess to B and be together with B in any way shape or form no matter the cost.

Needs: To let go of his feelings so that B could have a good send off and not dwell on the past.

B: Bro is in dgaf war and he's winning / Has no choice but to leave A. This scares B thinking on how A would react with this information. It is unsure if B has feelings for A but what is sure is that B cares for A deeply.

Wants: To stay in this building and leave good memories behind for the sake of A

Needs: To leave A behind for the sake of his future.

___________________________________________________________________

ACT 1

  • A & B arrives at an abandoned building
  • This is one of the harder terrains they've gone through
  • A is ultimately concerned "Bro where do you even find this place??"
  • B coaxes A "It'll be fun :D"
  • A is peer pressured (dont worry he's right where he wants to be) and gives in to B
  • They both enter the building.
  • They goof off into the building
  • "I got something to tell you-" vs "There's something I've been meaning to tell you-"
ACT 2A (Good ending?)

  • B reveals that bro's gonna be moving/leaving in the beginning/middle of an obstacle.
  • A is shell shocked and stops dead in their tracks
  • "WHAT" "yeah lol" "DONT LOL ME BRO!! TS SERIOUS!"
  • A dukes it out with B
  • "How dare you didn't tell me?? / How long have you known??" A vs "lol you didn't asked/j" / "didn't wanna worry you" B
  • B gives chase
  • A follows
ACT3A

  • B leads A up to the balcony
  • A is wheezing, B is out of breath
  • Both stop to admire the view and leans against the railings
  • Comfortable silence
  • A speaks first
  • "Is this it?" "It doesn't have to be"
  • A reassures B that we'll still contact each other after everything.
  • "We'll still be together....right?" "Of course"
  • B brings up A's topic
  • "So what did you wanna tell me?" "It's okay...I lowkey forgot what to say lmao" (A didn't forget what to say, TS GUY A LIAR)
  • Cuts to A's phone buzz of B texting with a new number notif "Heyyy"
ACT 2B (Bad ending?)
  • A confesses to B (pathetically like Im in a pathetically confessing competition and bro is my opponent)
  • "So uh I've been having uh ya know now that I think about it I don't think it's a good-" "Bruh pls spit it out already-" "Ivehadfeelingsforyouforalongtimenow"
  • B stops dead in his tracks and almost missed a pit hole
  • Uncomfortable silence and then questioning ensues
  • B is clearly not paying as well as an attention but A is overcompensating with over sharing
  • Welcome to the game show! Will B tell him that he has to leave soon and doesn't share the same feelings as A? (spoiler alert no he doesn't)
  • "are you even paying attention??" "yeah...this is just...alot..." "oh"
ACT 3B

  • B leads A up to the balcony
  • A is wheezing, B is out of breath
  • Both stop to admire the view and leans against the railings
  • Comfortable silence
  • B speaks first
  • "Is that why you're so dressed up lol?" "SHUSH God forbid I wanna look nice"
  • Both laugh for a bit
  • "sorry gang I don't like you like that" "that's alright gang totally fine, I just wanna still be friends" (A is digging his own grave as we speak)
  • "Yeah we'll still be friends"
  • Cut's to B's house getting sold and the filled up letterbox with A's letters inside.
Feedback

   ⇢ Week 2

Make two versions of the storyline to map out a)the choices that the character has, b)the ways that the story can go from for more clarity.

Mr Kannan asked me to create two stories of this because the story could go two ways (A confesses first / B says it first).

   ⇢ Week 3

Increase the tension between ACT2 & ACT3 like adding something like A overhearing B's phone call with someone that drives A into making the decision to not confess to B.

Yeah I agree with Mr Kannan's feedback on this and it will definitely applied to this. Mr Kannan also advised on following a more structured sequence of storytelling (for rubric purposes) but there's also room for experimental sequences as well. I am also thinking of using the first version of the plotline ( the one highlighted above in green) since I have a more concrete vision when it comes to the storyline and how to move forward with it as well.
